Writing Journal Update 12 and an Apology
First of all, I apologize for irregular updates. College and writing come first, but I feel an obligation to continue these posts as well. Plus, I enjoy them. So I am definitely sorry I've missed four weeks of posts.
College and Life Updates: The past month has been a bit of a blur. I don’t really know what to say about my personal life beyond the fact that my second-to-last semester is drawing to a close, and I’ve passed each class with an A. I’ve developed a game for Race, Gender, and Video games, as well as a short story (see below) and a portfolio. Next semester, I’m looking forward to Shakespeare, Principles of Abnormal Psychology, Interactive Narratives, and African Literature. Maybe Advanced Short Story Workshop. We’ll see what I can handle.
“Untitled Horror Story”: I’m working on a story involving demons in the crawl space. Beyond that, it’s a secret.
“Untitled Horror Story”: Still working on my story concerning Southern heritage (and my criticism of it).
Publishing News: “The Orchid’s Crimson Maw” has been published in The Dread Machine, so if you prefer to read fiction (horror), you can read that here. Yes, I posted that in the last update, but I’m just really happy with how this one turned out. Also, “The Life of a Butterfly” was published in Trembling With Fear. You can read that one here.
Personal Readings: The Midnight Library (novel), Perdido Street Station by China Miéville (novel), Devil’s Creek by Todd Keisling (horror, novel), Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (audiobook, thriller), Black Static Issue #76 (horror, literary journal), The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Picoult (novel)
Finished: The Haunting of Ashburn House by Darcy Coates (horror, novel), Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer (science fiction, horror, novel), “Second Chances” by Stephen Graham Jones (short story, dark fiction), Come Closer by Sara Gran (horror, novel)
I’m making no more promises here until winter break, which actually be after Dec. 7th.
